Mike Bardsley (Harpsichord)

Following a Junior Exhibition to Trinity College of Music, Mike read Music at Dartington College of Arts where he first studied piano and then harpsichord with John Wellingham and Roy Truby. He has taught music in County Durham and Oxfordshire and performs as a piano and harpsichord accompanist and recitalist with a variety of groups and soloists. Over the last few years Mike has worked with the ensemble 4s Company, exploring the duet repertoire for Soprano and Mezzo Soprano and for piano duet, Good Company which performs songs and readings on a theme, and The Compton Chamber Ensemble which concentrates on the Baroque repertoire. As a soloist he has given recitals in Chelmsford Cathedral, Sulgrave Manor and Chipping Norton Theatre.

Mikes harpsichord, which was commissioned from the keyboard instrument maker David Law in 1989, is a replica of a 1693 double-manual instrument by Blanchet. This magnificent instrument is sufficiently versatile to enable him to pursue the study not only of his first love, the French baroque repertoire, but also the other main national styles of the harpsichord tradition English, Flemish, German, Italian and Spanish.
